The world is a better place because Eric Idle is in it.
oh brother
Underrated comment
Absolutely ❤
Eric is just so fast and what a memory, words flow out of him effortlessly. So on the ball. In contrast to the slooow Bob.
Eric has always been a favourite! So charming & so massively hilarious!!
Always loved Eric , came to apprec😢iate Bob….
Great interview of an incredibly gifted comedic giant!!! Eric’s wild sense of humor is every bit as sharp here, as it was on the Monty Python
episodes, and in their movies! What an amazingly
talented performer, from start to finish!
All the people crapping on Bob Saget...Eric ASKED for him to be his interviewer, and as someone who didn't volunteer and might be uncomfortable interviewing an idol, I think he did OK.
I love that man. What a wonderful soul.
Yep. Eric's great, too.
Thank Bob and Eric. You both have made the world a much better place. I am in your debt forever.
Amazing from start to finish. Eric is a special person.
The thumbs down people must have had their sense of humour churgically removed, along with a big chunk of their brain. I, for one, can't see another reason for giving this a thumbs down. Forget the host, IT HAS ERIC IDLE TALKING; reason enough to watch and listen!
absolutely never a dull or disappointing moment in this entire interview/show. VIVA ERIC (our Idle)
What a strange coincidence, I was born on my birthday too!
Amazing interview. Eric Idle is such a pleasure to listen too............
Eric Idle has had an amazing life. I would be ecstatic to just live one day in his shoes.
You must be tiny
there are very few people that can make you laugh with tears rolling on the floor
Bob was a wonderful interviewer and was really funny. I enjoyed this conversation much more than the other Idle interview with that "comedian". In this they were in real harmony.
Urgh.. The guy talked over eric again and again.
@@MikaelLevoniemi Yes, but Eric was seemingly enjoying it.
That second song was so saddening after Bob's passing
Fantastic book, such a funny good read. X
I love Eric Idle. As funny and as wonderful as the Python team are, Eric has always been the funniest for me. And his songs literally puts me in tears, of laughter. I thiink he's one of the most naturally funny people I've ever seen. What an amazing guy. It's unbelievably bad luck that he and Elvis didn't ever work together. Idle wrote a funny movie about a Beatles-type group. Imagine if he'd written something like this but with Elvis.
"unless it's with your lawyer" Bob has so many jokes that don't land, but it's kind of endearing that he doesn't seem to care
Fun to listen to these stories. Always interesting. What an incredible mind.
Thanks guys a real pickup.
how did I just now find this RIP Bob Saget he was my childhood as Danny Tanner on full house and AFHV i love seeing him being the interviewer in this
Bob always be loved forever!! Gone but never forgotten 💔💔💔
Of course, this was an evening focused on Eric. But anyway...
Eric's candid nature is superb honesty is wit
On Eric Idle's idea about an extra rewrite of The Meaning of Life, Peter Ustinov used tha idea of a single character moving through time in The Unknown Soldier and His Wife which I saw at a London theatre around 1970. It worked very well
Watching Bob try his darndest to keep it in for the first 15-20 minutes was so, soo good.
Idle has become my new favourite Python this weekend. I could listen to him all afternoon.....and after watching this, I almost have.
What a delightful conversation! As a Monty Python fan, I've also been fascinated with the interviews he and John Cleese have given time. Eric Idle's story is amazing.
Love the Star Wars scene ruining story! AHAHAHAHAHA
Of course the closing tune is perfect.
What a wonderfull man! A complete artist! Love Eric, the best Python!
And John a great comedy Duo
What a talented bunch of comedians, and Russell Brand.
LOVE THE PYTHONS AND LOVE ERIC IDLE. MAY YOU ALL LIVE FOREVER!1
Still going strong today, great to hear all the background behind Python from Eric and yes, from his incredible wit.
Made for an enjoyable evening. Thank you
Buy the audio book...it’s fantastic!
Thought Bob Saget was a great host. Thoroughly enjoyable interview.
Wonderful truthful. Just for fun . It goes with what Eric said. 😁😁😁 smile smile sit on a Happy face. . Great show Honestly. Just real and funny.
“Laughter puts you back into reality.”
Love you always, Bob
As a Genesis fan- yes, they did financially-contribute.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ERIC!!! SPIKE IS AN AUSSIE!!! Lived down the road from me at Woy Woy!!
Sweden does not have a konstitution but instead what is called foundation laws (which are equally hard to change). There are seven. One is the equivalent of 'freedom of speech'. It has been a founding law in Sweden since before USA was even founded. Dated 1766, I think it is actually the oldest in the world still in use (with minor amendments over the years as the original is only about printed text). The original is still available at the Swedish Royal Library.
I did not write this as a critic of Mr Erc Idle, just for information purpose. Nobyody can expect him to keep track of the laws of a small country like Sweden. It is however partly the reason Life or Brian was not banned in Sweden as it was in Norway which he mentioned.
Are you free to criticize religion and kings? :)
I love Sweden.
1:01:55 Let's see you likes for The One The Only THE LEGEND - ERIC IDLE !!!
His answer to the immigration officer starting at 53:10 is the most concise and coherent statement about the current administration I have ever heard.
Yes, it was truly a period of harrowing fascism, dwarfing even Nazi Germany, which is now as a result merely a footnote in history.
Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
Thanks! I will!
If you lined them all up, the most recognizable and approachable Python was Eric, Cleese being second.
I grew up watching Eric (and the rest of the Pythons). My kids grew up watching Mr. Saget. If you happen to know either of these gentlemen, give them a hug and a peck on the cheek for me.
Edit: 12:25 Make it two. R.I.P. Mr. Jones. Now I am sad :(
Edit #2: Eric Idle is younger than the Rolling Stones. Damn. See my profile picture? That's me in my day job. As Keith. Think it was taken at Stone's Place on Queen St in Toronto.
ERIC!!! SPIKE IS AN AUSSIE!!! Lived down the road from me at Woy Woy!!
I had a friend in university who looked like a huge, chubby, curly-haired, slightly indian Bob Saget.
Sadly, that second song became Bob's. Still at a loss at his passing. And Eric seems never idle.
Eric was the member of Python who oversaw everything and kept Python writing teams chugging along. As he didn't have a writing partner they listened to his critique
Where did that come from? (friendly question, not meant to be provocative)
Oh hell yeah
52:30 Mr. Eric Idle should've said that entire speech to that immigration officer. Would've put that person in their place.
Don't shoot him, he's not a tiger...
interesting he says "they can't hit you while they are laughing", my best mate at school used to beat me up while telling jokes, i was i hysterics while he was hitting me. i always thought eric idle was brash and domineering, but i've watched two of these talks and i'm glad to say i was entirely wrong about him.
They were good jokes then?
Sadly now 2 Pythons have passed away & had Memorial services! R.I.P. Graham & Terry J.
Why I discover this video just now.
I know the feeling. Been a Python fan all my life and only JUST seen this and the wonderful Cleese/Idle LiveTalk clip of similar length. This is where mainstream media fails us.
Absolutely hilarious. :D
58:53 If you want to see a funny Gary Shandling movie, watch "What Planet are You From?" it also stars John Goodman who is over the top funny. I could see the Monty Python boys dong the same movie or just being in it with Gary and John.
Funny, talented man.
Free speech is regulated in the Constitution of Sweden. In 1766 it was the first country to introduce a constitutional law where censorship was abolished and the freedom of the press guaranteed. We were also the first to abolish it but it came back in 1809 with the new constitution and it's been there since.
Of course all these Scandinavian countries are 100 per cent homogeneous so it's absurd when they want to tell other countries how to do things
@@billharris1847 Well let's face it Norway, Sweden and Denmark and Finland are some of the happiest country's on earth
give swedan a biscuit
Of course Sweden and those countries are all 99 % homogeneous
So it is ridiculous to constantly hold up Sweden as an example that much larger countries with diverse populations can learn anything from
That's funny since the Swedish population has a 32% immigrant population.
But hell, why would facts matter if they don't fit your narrative?
Kinda kills your argument doesn't it?
Sweden, and the other Scandinavian and Northern European countries are remarkably successful compared to the US, which is 72% white Catholic...
The Pythons were The Beatles too.
Yes, the Beatles of comedy!
Lol "i like you because.. you just got married... and you had your honeymoon in london"
01:33:16 - Sings "Forget about the Trumps." :D
Ive always thought it was odd when they mention monty python creature, contributors he gets skipped alot. John cleese deserves alot of credit but Eric did the average bit so well, and his roles are memorable.
He’s as great as all of them.
Bob's overall demeanor is that of an 86 year old man. He acts as if he's pre-dementia. He's just off. How is it that he comes across as being older than Eric Idle?
I would say he could be forgiven for being 'off' while on stage interviewing one of the geniuses of comedy timing....let alone one of your heroes and influences. I'm sure that's why. Although, being from the UK where he's no pt so well known, it's the first time I've seen Bob so I have nothing to compare with. All I know is, my demeanour would be challenged if I was interviewing a Beatle.
apparently he's used to playing the fool for laughs. In the Netherlands we only got the funniest home videos Bob, and later Full House, so I only know him as cringey presenter of dumb ass videos and loveable push-over daddy Tanner. I'm aware that he did some racy stuff as well, but the majority of his wellknown work doesn't reflect that. His interview style isn't terrible, but it certainly doesnt live up to the intro Idle gave him as some bad-ass comedy-rebel.
In the end though, this video is about Idle, not about Saget.
well now he ded
Host rubs me the wrong way.
me too.
Sometimes he rubs the wrong people.
Why don't you look into Sagat's comedy, he is very good actually.
@@cravinbob Well it's an individual thing, very good,O.K. etc.I've just watched half of his stand-up routine and clearly he induced laughter in SOME people, so I won't argue .
But you do like to be rubbed, right?
His diction is better than Cleese who tends to mumble.
"...on propaganda TV channels that would've shamed Joseph Goebbels...
FOX NEWS should change their slogan to that
Michael Palin is my favourite Python. He is certainly the most modest.
Yes, Michael is also the most genuine and sincere.
@@RustyCohle No he’s not. (Don’t argue with me).
He's a jem!
Icon, funny
We have freedom of speech aswell here in Germany;-)
Just don't flip the bird, in anger, at someone whom verbally assaults you on the street or it's a 500 Euro fine! (How is that free speech?)

Yea, It's like punching your pillow case because you think it's a ghost!

This was an interview ... not a sketch
@@roberttauzer7042 I'll take an Eric Idle interview over willard2729 any day.
And Idle gets some jabs at Trump while not saying the name and blames him for some celebrity deaths? When will entertainers just fucking entertain and leave their politics out. They become idiots and lose their talent in an instant. Entertain us, don't be David Crosby...
Celebrity does not require anyone to relinquish their rights - freedom of speech and expression are unalienable. As human beings, they get an informed opinion, even if you disagree with that opinion. If you don't like their opinion, RUclips is a big place - no one is forcing you to watch them.
Notice it's almost always the "entertainers" who are desperate to resurrect their career that virtue signal the hardest.
Mark Basnight ever hear of George Carlin? Maybe great comedians can do more than just tell jokes. Maybe they can be like Will Rogers and get us to ask ourselves uncomfortable questions.
@@teodelfuego Exactly! That's who I was thinking of. Study him. He didn't go up there and start lecturing. He was a COMEDIAN. Comedy - not dour lectures - can change opinions.
Python always has and always will jab at authority.....institutional, constitutional, theological, political, judicial, educational etc.etc. You can't expect half a century of habit to be broken.
I would like Americans to stop applauding. But I understand that's just how it is. I can deal with it...just. :)
Wonderful stuff.... except I don't think "kicking the bastard out" has helped anything .. quite the reverse. So. Think about it.
Well, we used to have freedom of speech.
The Constitution doesn’t guarantee that if you say something stupid people still have to like you.
Idle's comments and indeed your own, are mostly exagerated whining about the system. Nothing wrong with that, but if an American hears that, he's gonna think the UK is a police state compared to the US.
The UK still has freedom of speech. Compare that stuff to China, where some parts of the internet aren't even available to watch these videos and comment on them.
Any country where you can openly bitch and moan about the government without being dragged from your bed the next day and never be seen again, is sufficiently free in my view. It's all very relative.
@@omikronweapon In post-Soviet Russia, there is-yes-freedom of speech………. (Just no freedom after speech ).

you should see Eric with John they compliment each other very well. Bob butchered this.
@@Rivracost3 Actually, I did, and you're right: The two together are tremendously funny. I do think the Pythons should steer clear of current politics, though. That hasn't worked out well for Eric or John.
Ah right...so they're not funny because they criticize your political views?
What are you, five? These guys have been funny, political and relevant for decades...please tell me about your successes outside of RUclips comments
